President's Message
The Fontana Police Officers Association is a professional police association which is Connected with the Community of the greater Fontana area.
The members of Fontana POA include all the Fontana police officers, detectives, and corporals.
Our members regularly volunteer their time and contribute money to help make Fontana a better place to live, work, play and invest.
High quality police services are based on a relationship of trust and communication between the police officers and the public.
In 1829, Sir Robert Peel created the first modern police department called the London Metropolitan Police Department.
To help the public and the police understand this new organization, Sir Robert wrote Nine Principles of Policing. I am going to paraphrase Robert Peel’s Principle No. 7.
(A) Police should maintain a good relationship with the public.
(B) Police are the public and the public are the police.
(C) But, police are the only people who are paid to give full-time attention to policing.
(D) Nevertheless, it is the duty of every citizen to create a better, safer community which is essential for a community to succeed and prosper.
We believe one of the best ways to build trust is to get to know people one-on-one. Nothing does that better than sitting down together and sharing a meal.
We regularly do that. For example, we provide meals at Ronald McDonald House for the families of children who are patients at Loma Linda University and other local hospitals.
We regularly provide meals at community events including Love Fontana, National Night Out, Fontana Senior Center, local schools, and faith-based organizations.
We partner with a coalition of service clubs to provide Christmas gifts for the children of families who are besieged financially.
We also partner with Target and the City of Fontana to provide shopping for children of struggling families during the holidays.
Each year we support young people with scholarships including the Miss Fontana Scholarship Pageant.
We support and volunteer at the regional Special Olympics held here in Fontana and numerous other community events.
Our organization has been awarded Officers of the Month by the Police Department, Fontana Heroes by the City, and named one of the top non-profit organizations of the year.
Approximately 200 years ago, Sir Robert Peel invented modern policing as a joint effort, a partnership between the public and people.
Please join us in the venture to provide the best police services to the people of our City and region. Thank you for taking the time to learn about the Fontana POA.
